What is a Doula?
The term Doula (doo-la) is an old Greek word which is used today to mean an experienced woman who supports others during childbirth and/or in early family life.
A birth doula..
Is a doula that helps a woman and her family prepare for the birth of the baby. She offers continuous emotional and physical support during labor, and assistance with immediate newborn care.
She does not replace the woman's partner or care providers. She does not make decisions or speak for her clients but helps the woman to achieve the birth of her choice.
She will not perform any clinical tasks.
A Post partum doula...
Is a doula who offers support in the home with early family life adjustments. She offers breastfeeding support, sibling care and light housekeeping.
